The wild Bactrian camel is critically endagered, and is one of the world’s rarest mammals. The camel must cope with extreme tempereture ranges both during the summer and winter. The camels on this picture were domesticated. | High resolution | |

Following the track of the Great Wall. In the western parts the Great Wall is constructed by rammed earth. It looks quit different from the popular pictures of the Great Wall close to Beijing, but is just the same a large part of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall. | High resolution | |
In this section, the Great Wall is double. The wall to the left was probably constructed to prevent Mongolian horse riders from riding unhindered straight up to the main line of defence. It was high enough to prevent horses from passing it. | High resolution | |
